Ascoop celebrated five decades of work
About 400 people attended the Sheraton Hotel in Bogotá to celebrate 50 years of the Asociación Colombiana de Cooperativas, Ascoop. Politicians, cooperative leaders and representatives of the solidary sector took part in the event.
During his speech, Clemente Jaimes, president of the Board of Ascoop, remembered some stories about the institution and highlighted the hard work of its members who were the ones who promoted the creation of Ascoop.
A video made by Ascoop was also shown in which participants were able to see the legacy of leaders as Francisco Luís Jiménez and Carlos Uribe Garzón and some figures regarding the work done by the association.
As of 31 December 2009, there were 145 member cooperatives and 1.411.000 members, 29% of the total number of members in the sector. Ascoop cooperatives generate 51.540 jobs.
