Pacto verde cooperativo

Background

The Pacto Verde Cooperativo (Co-operative Green Pact) was promoted during the 10th National Cooperative Conference – Climate change and Colombian reality: “The cooperative answer” – organized by Confecoop in Cartagena de Indias, on 25-26 September, 2008. During the event the Co-operative Green Pact was signed by different representatives of the cooperative sector.

During the XXXIV meeting of ICA-Americas Regional Administration Council held in Peru on 25-26 June, 2009, participants agreed to include the document “Co-operative Green Pact” as part of the second thematic area “Growth and Sustainability” in the I Cooperative Summit of the Americas. It was also agreed to add the cooperatives’ commitment to promote and adopt this initiative in the Summit Declaration.

What is the Co-operative Green Pact?

It is a response of the cooperative movement to environmental problems. A large number of cooperatives demonstrate their commitment to Planet Earth, carrying out activities aiming at the protection of natural resources and sustainable development.

Cooperatives accept to:
- follow actions towards environmental conservation
- carry out institutional periodical assessments of their practices
- include environmental issues as norms of conduct of the organizations
- engage in and pomote environmental education
- ensure compliance with the pact along with ICA-Americas
- use the Co-operative Green Pact logo in every action they accomplish to promote the pact.
