Rochdale awards handed out in Cancun at General Assembly
Professor Florencio Eguia Villasenor, the moral advisor to the Mexican co-operative movement, received the Rochdale Award at the ICA's General Assembly in Cancun, Mexico. This professor, who is considered to be the father of the credit union movement in Mexico, received the award from ICA Director-General Charles Gould, who also gave the award to Jong-Koo Lee.
In 2000, the ICA Board established the Rochdale Pioneers Award. The purpose of this Award is to recognise a person or, under special circumstances a cooperative organisation, having contributed to innovative and financially sustainable cooperative activities that have significantly benefited their membership.
