From October 23 through the 26, more than 1,500 cooperative members from all over the world gathered in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina to enjoy an extensive program of activities created and carried out during the four days of the most important continental event of the year.
On October 24, within the framework of the V Cooperative Summit of the Americas, the constitution act for the Cooperatives of the Americas Platform for Development (PCAD, for its acronym in Spanish) was signed, as an operative instrument, creating an open space for dialogue between the cooperative organizations of the Americas and the main actors in international cooperation and sustainable development worldwide.
The constitution of this Permanent Forum made up of parliamentarians with an affinity toward solidarity economy in the Americas, with a presidency and a Rotating Technical Secretariat, is one of the big news items of the V Cooperative Summit of the Americas because it will allow for the articulation of efforts, at a continental level, before the states for the promotion of public policies and regulations favorable to the solidarity economy and the cooperative movement.
The Conference Room Jardines at the Hotel Panamericano in the city of Buenos Aires, was the stage where members of the cooperative movement participated in the panel dedicated to the sustainable management of natural resources.
Over 1500 people from around the world have come to the opening of the most important Cooperative event of the year which will take place from October 23rd – 26th at the Hotel Panamericano in Buenos Aires.
As an appetizer for the V Summit of the Cooperatives that will kick start tomorrow in Buenos Aires, two hundred cooperators from 70 different countries worldwide participated in the 2018 ICA General Assembly yesterday. Ariel Guarco opened his first Assembly as President of the International Cooperative Alliance in his hometown with an engaged room full of cooperators.
Over the next few days the V Summit of the Cooperatives of the Americas will bring together head members from the continental and global cooperative movement. This event has been organized by the Confederación Cooperativa de la República de Argentina (Cooperar) (Cooperative Confederation of the Republic of Argentina) and the American Region of the International Cooperatives Alliance. Some 400 Argentinian leaders and a similar number of people from the entire continent will participate in this Summit.
In Costa Rica, the Group of National Project Officers (GONP) was created, integrated by 13 representatives of member organizations from 11 countries from the Americas. This group was created within the framework the project "Cooperatives for Development" co-financed by the European Union.
Co-operatives of the Americas is looking for a Development Officer and a Knowledge Management Officer to join its #coops4dev team working on promoting the cooperative business model in global and regional development policies.
The International Cooperative Alliance released its Statement for the 96th International Day of Cooperatives that will be celebrated worldwide on Saturday, July 7, 2018, under the slogan "Sustainable Societies through cooperation".
