A KNOWLEDGE HUB on Social Economy and Sustainable Development Goals

2 June 2017

The United Nations initiative seeks to complement and enhance the knowledge and efforts of various organizations in these two fields.

On 25 April, the United Nations Inter-Agency Taskforce on Social and Solidarity Economy adopted a proposal to create a knowledge center for the Social Solidarity Economy (SSE) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This project is the direct result of the Seminar of the Working Group held in Rome on 4 November 2016

The Knowledge Hub (KH) will serve two purposes. First, the KH will be a reference point on the SSS, complementing the existing SSE knowledge resource centers as Socioeco.org, RELIESS and C.I.T.I.E.S, all related with the Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of Social Economy RIPESS. Links will also be made to information and analysis provided on other websites such as the Academy SSE or organizations such as GSEF and others, to avoid duplicating content.

A second very important objective of this Center will be to produce knowledge about how the SSE participates in the SDG. For example, researchers and practitioners will be invited to produce papers on these relationships.

RIPESS is one of the organizations that support the Knowledge Hub project. To do so, it offers to include its resource centers, such as Socioeco.org, which could directly participate as an advisor to train and implement the initiative. This will be defined once the project starts, which still depends on its funding. The Taskforce secretariat will start raising funds in the coming months.
