Global News Hub attracts long line of participants
he Global News Hub has found a welcoming audience in the global co-operative sector with many organisations beginning to sign up to the news service.
Those so far onboard include ICMIF, Canadian Co-operative Association, Credit Union National Association/Credit Union Magazine, dotCoop, Crash Network, New Zealand Co-operative Association and Social Business Australia. The service goes live on September 2.
“There will be a focus on rich multimedia; we have our own video server where co-operatives can upload videos from conferences, speeches and publicity material,” said Anthony Murray, Online Editor of thenews.coop. “People can also create their own regular audio and video podcasts and create picture slideshows from their events.”
The Global News Hub also is being developed as a portal for official documents.
“There will also be an element of openness and transparency through our document portal, people can upload and share minutes from meetings, annual reports and text from speeches,” said Murray. “Any other document can be shared too such as PowerPoint presentations and policy papers.”
Co-operatives can manually submit content using the hub’s ’customised editorial system’ or it can automatically import content from a co-operative’s website or blog.
“All content will be automatically tagged using sophisticated software — it’s called ’semantic web’. This means it is easier to relate content, so a variety of blogs and news articles on the same subject will be grouped together automatically,” says Murray.
This will also mean co-operatives can view content through their own prism of interest, whether by news topic, people or the organisation.
